South Amboy Plans Memorial Day Parade

SOUTH AMBOY – The city will be holding this year’s Memorial Day parade and celebration a week before the holiday to encourage more participation in the annual salute to U.S. servicemen and women. The parade is scheduled for Saturday, May 22, at 1 p.m.

The parade route will begin at the Knights of Columbus on 4th Street, then proceed down Stevens Avenue to John Street, then up Broadway to City Hall.

Back by popular demand, the Patriotic Pooch Contest will immediately follow the parade. Bring your dog to Station Square on Broadway to enter. The top prize is $100 plus a photo collage from Scans n More.

There will be a Patriotic Revue, featuring a medley of songs presented by South Amboy’s own community theater group, Triple H Productions, directed by Wilfredo Hernandez. A pie eating contest begins at 12:30 p.m., open to the first 20 participants. There will be a $5 entry fee, and the winner receives a $100 cash prize.

Are you South Amboy’s oldest living veteran? If you think you might be, parade organizers would like you to participate in the festivities. Call Karen at 1-732-525-5961 for more information.
