Cranford, Westfield Residents To Compete In Toastmasters Contest

WESTFIELD –Charlie Harder of Cranford and Anne Baker of Westfield will compete Monday, April 19 in the next level of an international public speaking competition, which culminates this summer, according to the Toastmasters of Westfield.

The contest takes place at AT&T in Bedminister at 6:30 p.m.

Harder and Baker were the winners of the previous contest level last month in Summit. The April 19 contest, known as the Division C contest, features the best speakers from among 32 Toastmasters clubs in Central New Jersey.

Harder won first place for his speech, called “The Prisoner,” which graphically depicted, through vivid, colorful language, childhood anecdotes, props and physical gestures, what it feels like to be trapped by a stuttering impediment.

Baker won first place in the evaluation contest. In that contest, the contestant has five minutes to prepare a brief evaluation summarizing the strengths and weaknesses of a presentation.
