Black History Program Saturday

RAHWAY—Artist R. Gregory Christie will tell stories about two brave champions as part of a Black History program from 1 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, April 17 at the Rahway Public Library, in a program geared toward children aged 9 through 12.

The first 100 children in attendance will receive free books and sponsors will serve light refreshments.

Christie, the illustrator of “Only Passing Through; The Story of Sojourner Truth” and “Bad News for Outlaws: The Remarkable Life of Bass Reeves, Deputy U. S. Marshal,” may be found on the web at http://www.gas-art.com
He has illustrated the biographies of many significant historical and cultural figures, including Richard Wright, Langston Hughes, and others.

He is among the 2008 honor recipients of the Theodore Geisel Award  for his book with author Lisa Wheeler named “Jazz Baby.”   The awards, named for the world-renowned children’s author more commonly known as Dr. Seuss, given in recognition of the most distinguished American book for beginning readers published in English during the preceding year.
