MOUNTAINSIDE—The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, Sanguiliano Garden Center, and The Westfield Running Company will present the second annual Quest for the Cure 5K Run/Walk in Mountainside’s Echo Lake Park
This Sunday, April 18, registration opens at 8:30 a.m. and the race kicks off at 10 a.m.
This is a 5k run/walk throughout the park and Mountainside residential area. The course is mostly flat making it very family friendly. So, don’t hesitate to bring out the kids and strollers.
Mountainside residents should be aware that Mill Lane and Globe Ave will be closed between the hours of 10am and noon. If you need to get out of your residence, the Mountainside Police will be able to escort you.
All of the funds raised are going directly back to the society to help the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s mission, which is to cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease, and myeloma, and to improve the quality of life for patients and their families. Donations are used to support patient services, advocacy, and research. Over $550 million, dedicated to Society supported researchers, has resulted in advances that have prolonged, enhanced and saved the lives of patients inflicted with blood cancers.
General registration is $25. All participants will receive t-shirts and race day goodie bags while supplies last. There will also be food, family fun, and entertainment at the finish. The top 3 overall participants receive awards as well as the top finishers in each age group: under 19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, and 70+.
Participants and spectators should park in Loews Movie Theater parking lot, 1021 Route 22 Mountainside. There will be traffic attendants to help you get to the park safely; after you park, you can walk Glenn Avenue to Mill Lane, which will lead you to the park. The start will be at the Gazebo in the park.
