LINDEN – A gas station on East Edgar Road was robbed at gunpoint early Monday morning, according to police.
Officers responded to a reported robbery at the Hess Station, 701 East Edgar Road, at 3:40 a.m. on April 5. The victim, a 48-year-old station attendant from Elizabeth, told police that he was sitting in the booth near the gas pumps when he heard a knock on the door. He looked up and saw a man wearing a black hooded-sweatshirt and a black ski mask pointing a handgun at him, police said.
The attendant tried to lock the booth door, but the robber forced it open. The employee handed over his wallet and $300 from the till, police said. The robber grabbed the station attendant and led him into the convenience store at gunpoint. There, he demanded money and Newport cigarettes from the cashier, a 37-year-old Linden woman, police said.
After she complied with the demands, the robber locked both victims into a storage room at the rear of the store, police said. The station attendant called police on his cell phone.
The suspect was gone by the time police arrived. Police believe there may have been a second suspect because they received a report of two people fleeing the area on foot.
Authorities are asking anyone with information about the robbery to call Det. John Johnston at 1-908-474-8550 or email email@example.com.
