NEW BRUNSWICK—On Thursday, April 8, New Jersey Blood Services, a division of the New York Blood Center, is rededicating their donor room with a reception open to the public. Local dignitaries will be on-hand to cut the ribbon at 167 New Street in New Brunswick between 5 and 7 p.m.
New Jersey Blood Services is celebrating the rededication of the newly remodeled facility with food, fun and entertainment and an open invitation to local residents, businesses and students from Rutgers University and Middlesex County College.
Aside from being a community blood center where donors can give whole blood and platelets, the donor room will also host the Gallery at New Street, exhibiting the works of New Jersey artists and photographers.
Presently, the works of area photographers Marilyn Espinosa and Teresa Lamicella will be the first on display in a two women show entitled “Beautiful Sights”.
Espinosa’s inspirations focus on the natural beauty of her surroundings, from the vast beauty and breathtaking vistas of Yosemite National Park to capturing sunrises and sunsets at just the right moment.
Her trademark is, “Never Take a Beautiful Sight for Granted,” which was inspired by the tragedy of Sept. 11, 2001, in the sense that no one could ever imagine how a treasured skyline could be forever changed in such a short period of time.
Black and white photography and alternative photo processes have been Lamicella’s area of concentration for the past few years. She prefers the hands-on experience the traditional darkroom provides and says “I focus on these techniques because of the ethereal effects and emotions that can be brought out by the developing process and by choosing the right images.”
The public is welcome to view the exhibit, as well as donate blood in the donor room which is open everyday except Monday and Thursday. For hours of the exhibit call 1-732-220-7000 or to make an appointment to donate blood call 1-800-933-BLOOD (2566), or visit the website at www.nybloodcenter.org
