CLARK – One of Clark Township’s most popular and meaningful fundraising events is getting an extra boost from Investors Savings Bank.
The bank is supporting the 2010 Relay For Life of Clark, which is an annual overnight walk/run relay that raises funds for the American Cancer Society. Many volunteers from Relay For Life will attend the Grand Reopening of Investors’ newly built branch at 77 Central Avenue in Clark.
The former Investors’ branch in a nearby storefront has been replaced by a 3,800-square-foot building. On Saturday, April 17, beginning at 9:30 a.m., teams of runners and walkers will set up a mini track that begins at the branch’s drive-through lane and continues into the parking lot.
Team captains and their members will show how the Relay For Life of Clark will kick off on Friday, June 11 at 6 p.m. The 12-hour charity event will be held on Arthur L. Johnson High School’s running track. After the Investors Savings Bank demonstration at its Grand Reopening, volunteers will be available to register people for the relay. More than 70 teams, which include children, teens and adults, are already signed up. Together, they have pledged to raise over $200,000 for the American Cancer Society.
Also, everyone at the Investors’ Clark Central Grand Reopening may contribute to the fundraiser by purchasing Relay For Life Luminaria bags. Hundreds of these bags will be placed along the high school track. Candles glowing inside the bags will light the way as teams walk or run through the night and finish at 6 a.m. on Saturday, June 12.
“The energized and enthusiastic women and men who created the Relay For Life of Clark have touched this community’s heart and generated an incredible level of support,” said Investors Savings Bank’s Clark Central Branch Manager Michael Tyrone. “And, we are helping to make a difference by supporting this local effort that has motivated the whole town.”
During the Grand Reopening celebration, Investors Savings Bank will donate $25 to Relay For Life of Clark each time a new account is opened at the branch at the Grand Reopening on April 16, 17 and 19.
“We are very pleased that Investors Savings Bank has stepped in and is supporting the can-do spirit and camaraderie that makes Clark a special place to live,” said Clark Councilwoman Sheila Whiting, who is also the Chair of the Relay For Life event. “Last year, over 2,000 people supported us by walking the track or cheering their favorite teams, and we expect an even larger crowd this year.”
