PERTH AMBOY – The city’s police department is planning a training class for a Community Emergency Response Team (CERT.)

The CERT Program educates people about disaster preparedness for hazards that may impact their area and trains them in basic disaster response skills, such as fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization and disaster medical operations.

Using the training learned in the classroom and during exercises, CERT members can assist others in their neighborhood or workplace following an event if professional responders are not immediately available to help.

Classes will be held on Wednesday evenings, beginning April 14, from 6:30-8:30 p.m. until the end of June. There will be one Saturday morning practical class from 9 a.m. – noon.

For more information, call Perth Amboy police detective Tom Hudanish at 1-732-324-3863.
