UNION COUNTY — Authorities have charged a Plainfield woman with the stabbing death of a 36-year-old man, said Union County Prosecutor Theodore J. Romankow.
Markita Norris, 21, is being held on $500,000 bail at the Union County Jail in connection with the homicide of Bruce Rivera, of Plainfield, that occurred early Sunday morning.
Just after 2 a.m. on March 28 police were called to the corner of Central Avenue and W. 7th Street. They discovered Rivera and another man suffering from stab wounds. Rivera was pronounced dead at 2:27 a.m. while en route to a local hospital, said Romankow.
The other victim, a 34-year-old man from Plainfield remains in critical but stable condition at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick, said Romankow.
Norris was arrested shortly after the stabbing by members of the Plainfield Police Department. She was first charged with weapons possession. Yesterday afternoon the Prosecutor’s Office charged her with first degree murder, authorities said.
Malcolm Hunter, of Plainfield, was also arrested with Norris. He is charged with weapons possession and eluding police, authorities said. His bail is set at $500,000.
The investigation is continuing and authorities urge anyone with information to contact Det. Kevin Grimmer of the Union County Homicide Task Force at 1-908-447-3777.
