LONG BRANCH – The Kean University men’s and women’s track and field team opened the outdoor season at the 15th Annual Monmouth University Season Opener on Friday and Saturday.
Sophomore Aaron Lucas led the teams with a pair of top five finishes, as he placed third in the high jump (1.93 meters) and fourth in long jump (6.32 meters) and met the qualifying standard in the high jump for the Eastern College Athletic Conference Division III Outdoor Championships.
Also in the long jump, freshman Chris Lowe added an eighth place finish (6.23 meters), while senior Peterson Paquiot placed 10th in the pole vault (3.50 meters).
On the track, the 4×100 meter relay team of senior Jean LeBlanc and freshmen Joe Badru, Imoleme Ilogienboh and Barry Clark placed second and met ECAC qualifying standards, as they crossed the finish line in 43.20 seconds. Clark also added a sixth place finish in the 200-meter dash (22.87).
In the women’s meet, senior Sarah Lyon had the team’s best finish, placing fourth in the discus throw (35.11 meters). The Cougars had a pair of top 10 finished in the javelin, as sophomore Stephanie Cozzolongo was fifth (35.78 meters) and junior Jamie Grenger placed eighth (33.79 meters).
Sophomore Maria Moya added a seventh place showing in the pole vault (2.60 meters) and sophomore Jamie Sacco was 10th in the high jump (1.48 meters).
The Cougars return to action on Saturday, April 3, when both team compete at the Ramapo Invitational at Ramapo College.
