Perth Amboy Council Candidate Field Cut To Eight

PERTH AMBOY – Only eight candidates for Perth Amboy’s three open City Council seats will appear on the May 11 nonpartisan election ballot.

Nine candidates had filed for the race last week, but City Clerk Elaine Jasko was unable to certify Reyes Ortega’s petition because it didn’t have enough valid signatures.

None of the incumbents are running for re-election. City Council President Peter Jimenez, Councilman Robert Sottilaro and Councilwoman Geraldine Bolanowski all opted not to seek another term.

Board of Education President Kenneth Gonzalez, Planning Board Chairwoman Maria Garcia and former Perth Amboy Volunteer Fire Chief William Petrick are running together under the campaign slogan “Moving Forward Together.”

Leslie Dominguez-Rodriguez, Perth Amboy’s Democratic chairwoman and former Board of Education member Joel Pabon are running under the slogan “Working for Perth Amboy’s Future/ for the People”

Robert McCoy, the chief administrator of Perth Amboy’s Urban Enterprise Zone, is running under the slogan “Experience – Vision & Hope.” Richard Piatkowski, a member of the city’s Redevelopment Agency, is running under the slogan “The Obvious Choice.”

Nephtaly Cardona, a Perth Amboy High School teacher, is running under the slogan “Committed to Controlling Taxes.”
