Edison To Host Fishing Derby

EDISON – The township will host a family fishing derby, on Saturday, May 1, from 8 a.m. – 4 p.m., at Lake Papaianni in Papaianni Park, Edison.
Again this year, there will be a special “Children’s Only Derby” for any registered children up to 15 years of age.  This “kid’s only” event will begin at 8 a.m., one hour before the full derby gets underway.

Lake Papaianni will be stocked with trout for the event, and prizes will be awarded in both derbies to the male or female who catches the first fish, and to all those who catch one of 200 specially tagged fish.  Anyone between the ages of 16 and 70 must have a fishing license and a trout stamp. There is a $10 entry fee; however, the event is free to Edison residents age 65 and over with an township-issued senior I.D. card.

The fishing derby will have a rain date of Sunday, May 2, in case of inclement weather.  All derby registrants may continue to fish throughout the season.  If a tagged fish is caught after the derby, bring the tag to the Recreation Office, 328 Plainfield Avenue, Edison, to receive a prize.

Edison PBA, Local #75 will help sponsor the event by cooking, serving, and giving away refreshments throughout the day to all anglers as a free service to the community.  They also donated 25 prizes for tagged fish and special giveaways that you will find in your recreation fishing bag.  A “Kids Kasting Kontest” by the PBA is on tap for early afternoon.

For information, or A.D.A. concerns, contact the Edison Recreation Department, 328 Plainfield Avenue, Edison between 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. or call 1-732-248-7313.  Applications are also available at the Minnie B. Veal Community Center, the Municipal Complex, township libraries and through website at www.EdisonNJ.org.  They will also be available the day of the event.
