Easter Services Offered At Calvary Lutheran Church

CRANFORD—The solemn season of Lent draws to a close this week and the joyous celebration of Easter begins in worship services at Calvary Lutheran Church, 108 Eastman Street, Cranford.

The public is invited to all services.

The Rev. Carol A. Lindsay will lead worship and preach at all services.  Music will be under the leadership of Jeanne Elmuccio, director of music and organist.

Maundy Thursday services will be offered at 1:15 and 7:30 p.m. on April 1.  These services will include absolution and Holy Communion. The evening service also will include the stripping of the altar in preparation for Good Friday.  Seasonal music will be accompanied by organ and guitar.

On Good Friday, April 2, Calvary Lutheran Church will host the Cranford Community Good Friday Service at noon, sponsored by the Cranford Clergy Council.   This will be a meditative service of reflection, scripture and prayer.  All are welcome.

In the evening on Good Friday the solemnity of the day will be observed at 7:30 p.m. with a Tenebrae Service of shadows and darkness.  Music will be provided by the church’s Calvary Choir, with organ accompaniment.

The joyous observance of Easter arrives on Sunday, April 4 with Festival Services of Holy Communion at 8:30 and 10:15 a.m.  Each service will offer a full liturgy with instrumental and choral seasonal music and favorite Easter hymns accompanied by organ, trumpet and piano.  The 10:15 service will open with selections by the Calvary Bells.

Calvary’s usual 5:00 p.m. Sunday worship service will not be held on Easter, but will resume the following Sunday, April 11.

Calvary Lutheran Church is a member congregation of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America serving the Cranford-Westfield area and surrounding communities for 81 years.
