VSA Arts Announces Award Winners

NEW BRUNSWICK– VSA arts of New Jersey, a nonprofit statewide organization that provides arts opportunities for people with disabilities, will honor the recipients of the 2010 Arts Achievement Awards and the 5th Annual Dare to Imagine Awards on Saturday, April 17, at 2 p.m. at the Linwood Middle School in North Brunswick.

The annual Arts Achievement Awards recognize students with disabilities ages 14 to 21 who demonstrate outstanding involvement in the arts and educators and administrators who have established high quality arts programs for young people with disabilities.

Student Arts Excellence Award Winners:
Wesley Bechtler of Caldwell; Marie Doctor of Irvington; Chelsea Amber Donnelly of Cape May Court House; Geoffrey Held of Glen Rock; John Hines of Jersey City; Justin Lyons of Fairfield; Nadia Wilkes of Pleasantville.

Winners of the Student Arts Excellence Awards will receive the Governor’s Award in Arts Education at a ceremony on April 29, 2010 at the New Jersey State Museum in Trenton as VSA/NJ is a part of the planning council for Governor’s program.

VSA/NJ Committee Award Winner: Kevin Kim of Livingston.

Recognition in the Arts Award Winners:
Andrew Bambridge of Pittstown, Matt Cloughley of Lakewood, Heran Mouada of Little Ferry, Chantee M. Ricks of Newark, and Christian Vega of Hawthrorne

New Jersey Honoree of the VSA arts International Young Soloists Award Program: Daniel Richard Hedinger of Clark

Helen Gabriel Outstanding Volunteer Award Winners:  Rosemarie Bleacher of Monmouth Junction, Kaitlyn Rindler of Pearl River (NY), and Poonam Vaswani of Plainsboro

The annual Dare to Imagine Awards recognize those who have made a positive difference in the lives of people with disabilities.  VSA/NJ issued a call for nominations of individuals who have made an impact that relates to one or more of the following focus areas: corporate and organizational responsibility; education, training and enrichment opportunities; accessibility; and personal commitment and volunteerism.
