ROSELLE PARK – “Paintings – A 60 Year Retrospective” a solo exhibit of oil paintings by Roselle Park resident, Gloria Commerato, is on display at the Casano Community Center Art Gallery through April 16. There will be a reception to meet the artist on Friday, March 26, from 11 a.m. – noon.
The oils in this exhibit reflect the 60 years of Gloria Commerato’s love affair with painting. Self taught, Commerato started painting as a child. Her subjects range from her family, to religious themes and town events. The selection of paintings in this exhibit are but a small cross section of the works she prolifically has produced over the years.
Best known for artwork that has been on display for many years on the walls of the main gathering area in the Casano Community Center, these are drawings, done in the 80s, are of buildings and stores that depict a Roselle Park that no longer exists.
Many of her paintings grace the homes of her friends. Her religious-themed works were a favorite of many priests from the Church of the Assumption. They purchased them for their rooms or to give as gifts.
The Casano Community Center Art Gallery is located in the Casano Community Center, 314 Chestnut Street, Roselle Park. The community center and the gallery hours are Monday – Thursday, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Friday till 5 p.m.
