Rahway Resident Signs Letter of Intent With Notre Dame

SCOTCH PLAINS – Union Catholic Senior DJ Thornton has signed a letter of intent with the University of Notre Dame track and field team. Thornton will compete as a middle distance runner.

He has been a standout member of the Union Catholic cross-country and track teams and captured the 1600 meter Meet of Champions title on Feb. 27 with a time of 4:12.54. This time is currently the second fastest time in the nation and No. 10 in state history.

Thornton is seated with Principal Sister Percylee Hart at the letter signing. In the back row from left to right are Union Catholic Athletic Director Jim Reagan, Sr., and Union Catholic track coach Mike McCabe.
