Nine Candidates File For Perth Amboy Council Race

PERTH AMBOY – Nine candidates have filed to run for three seats on Perth Amboy’s City Council in the May 11 nonpartisan election.

None of the incumbents are running for re-election. City Council President Peter Jimenez, Councilman Robert Sottilaro and Councilwoman Geraldine Bolanowski all opted not to seek another term.


Board of Education President Kenneth Gonzalez, Planning Board Chairwoman Maria Garcia and former Perth Amboy Volunteer Fire Chief William Petrick are running together under the campaign slogan “Moving Forward Together.”

Leslie Dominguez-Rodriguez, Perth Amboy’s Democratic chairwoman, is running under the slogan “For the People.” Reyes Ortega, the city’s Republican chairman, is running under the slogan “Taking Action, Getting Results.”

Former Board of Education member Joel Pabon, who unsuccessfully ran on a slate with former Mayor Joseph Vas two years ago, is running under the slogan “Working for Perth Amboy’s Future.”

Robert McCoy, the chief administrator of Perth Amboy’s Urban Enterprise Zone, is running under the slogan “Experience – Vision & Hope.” Richard Piatkowski, a member of the city’s Redevelopment Agency, is running under the slogan “The Obvious Choice.”

Nephtaly Cardona, a Perth Amboy High School teacher, is running under the slogan “Committed to Controlling Taxes.”

The city clerk was reviewing the petitions to make sure they met the filing requirements.
