WESTFIELD—The Rotary Club of Westfield celebrated the 105th anniversary of Rotary International recently with a club visit from their District Governor. Founded in Chicago by Paul Harris and a few of his colleagues, Rotary International is the world’s first service club organization, with more than 1.2 million members in 33,000 clubs worldwide.
Rotary club members are volunteers who work locally, regionally, and internationally to combat hunger, improve health and sanitation, provide education and job training, and to promote peace under the motto Service Above Self. Rotary’s hallmark program to eradicate polio was launched in the Philippines in 1985, and since then, has immunized over 2 billion children eliminating 99% of Polio around the world. This will be only the second disease ever eradicated, the first being smallpox.
