This 15 mile fun ride around the City of Elizabeth has been steadily growing in the number of riders and also by rider points of origin, attracting cyclists from Massachusetts, New York, Pennsylvania, Maryland, to name a few.
Last year nearly 400 riders made the 15 mile trip, which is escorted by members of the Elizabeth Police Department’s Traffic Division. The ride this year will be different, with an entirely new pathway being finalized, affording waterfront, inner city, business, and residential views.
For the 7th Annual Tour de Elizabeth, the theme is “It happened here first,” as Elizabeth is home to many groundbreaking inventions and happenings. Before the ride, participants will be treated to a historic Revolutionary War battle re-enactment.
The cost of putting on the tour is largely underwritten by the support of sponsorships from the public and private community. The nominal cost of the ride has been unchanged throughout the years to give everyone the chance to participate.
Entry fee includes a free t-shirt and hat for the first 350 riders, entry into a free raffle, and a goody bag to all who come. Riders can download an application form and register at www.groundworkelizabeth.com, or the City of Elizabeth’s website at www.elizabethnj.org.
For those interested in becoming sponsors, they may e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org, or call Jonathan Phillips at 1-908-289-0262.
