RAHWAY – Last week, Rahway’s City Council unanimously approved an $8.5 million bond ordinance to fund the construction of a new 1,100-seat amphitheater and other downtown construction projects.

The theater will be built on a Hamilton Street site that was once home to the Hamilton Laundry, which is located near the existing Union County Performing Arts Center. Another aspect of the project is the construction of a black box theater and dance studio at the former Bell Building.

Construction on the amphitheater is expected to begin this fall and should be completed next year, according to city officials.

Rahway officials believe the project will help make Rahway an arts destination and drive the local economy.
