Rahway Students Examine The Properties Of Matter

Friday, March 12, 2010

RAHWAY—Rahway Middle School eighth graders have been studying the properties of matter in their science classes. As an investigation, students applied heat to a variety of substances and observed the changes made in the substances’ appearance during and after heating.

They learned that applying heat to a substance may result in the formation of a new substance—a chemical reaction—and that is a yet another characteristic property of the substance. The students also learned how to identify the reactants and products in a chemical reaction and how to write and balance a chemical equation.
