Hamburger’s “Playing Politics” To Open At College Gallery

March 12, 2010

CRANFORD – From March 12 to April 17, the exhibition, “Playing Politics”, will be on display in the Tomasulo Gallery on the Cranford campus of Union County College.

The exhibition consists of painted paper collages and mixed media works by artist Susan Hamburger. These pieces were done during the past three years, primarily under the Bush administration but also under President Obama’s, in response to both and to the media sideshow that covers them.

In her artist statement, Hamburger explains that her works, “…address contemporary social and political issues by way of updated 17th and 18th century European design motifs, including Spode, Reveillon and Churriguera. These become templates for illusionistic work made of ink, paper, paint, cardboard, foam board and paperclay, that masquerades as dinnerware, wallpaper paneling, and interior decor.”
