PLAINFIELD – It has been five years since Hurricane Katrina struck the Gulf States. New Orleans was devastated by this storm and the American Red Cross was there to help. In honor of the Tri-County Red Cross disaster relief efforts during this catastrophic event, the chapter is holding a “Fais do-do” Awards Fundraiser at the Westwood in Garwood on May 8.
A Fais do-do is a Cajun party, the term originating from New Orleans. Marshall’s Dixieland Band will provide live music and guests will have the opportunity to meander through our French Quarter Silent Auction. This event will honor local Red Cross donors, volunteers and supporters who have gone above and beyond in their efforts to ensure our programs continue in the community.
This year’s honorees are:
• New Jersey Assemblyman, Joseph Cryan,
• Disaster Action Team Leader, Terri Esposito,
• Union County Freeholder, Alexander Mirabella, and
• Kean University Design Studio, Steven Brower.
“Each honoree has distinguished themselves as someone who believes in the mission of the Red Cross,” explained Nathan Rudy, Executive Director for the Tri-County Red Cross. “This event is the perfect place to showcase their stories on why they support our chapter.”
The Fais do-do will be hosted at the Westwood, 438 North Avenue, Garwood on May 8 from 7 to 11 p.m. All funds raised will benefit the Tri-County Red Cross, which covers 22 communities in Union, Somerset and Middlesex counties.
