ELIZABETH—New York Giants football player Chris Canty visited Winfield Scott School No. 2 on Friday, March 5, to promote reading.
Canty read to students in kindergarten through second grade as part of the school’s celebration of Read Across America, a National Education Association sponsored initiative that motivates children to become readers and creates awareness about the importance of reading and literacy. The events of Read Across America coincide with the birthday of world-renowned children’s book writer Dr. Seuss.
Canty, 27, is a defensive lineman for the New York Giants of the National Football League. He was drafted by the Dallas Cowboys in the fourth round of the 2005 NFL Draft out of Virginia University.
