Learning About The Theater Business

Monday, March 8, 2010

EDISON—Actress and playwright Jessica Dickey spoke to a group of Middlesex County College students on Thursday, March 4, about her craft, the business side of theatre, and her play “The Amish Project,” which was performed at the Crossroads Theatre in New Brunswick March 5 and 6.

Inspired by actual events, “The Amish Project” is the story of a schoolhouse shooting in an Amish community and their compassionate and forgiving reaction. Dickey, the author, plays seven characters in the production, which has received rave reviews. The students, most of whom are active in the college’s theatre program, also learned about the business side of the theatre, such as the importance of networking.
