The Devils have teamed-up with the breast cancer organization to help create awareness and promote the Affiliate’s April 25 Komen North Jersey Race for the Cure®, designed to raise funds for research and life-saving programs for uninsured women and men. New Jersey Devils Chairman Jeffrey Vanderbeek is serving as this year’s honorary race chair along with Newark Mayor Cory Bookerand Joseph N. DiVincenzo, Jr., Essex County executive. The event will take place in Essex County Branch Brook Park, Newark from 8 a.m. –noon. The Komen North Jersey Affiliate was founded in 1997 and serves nine counties in northern New Jersey – Bergen, Essex, Hudson. Morris, Passaic, Somerset, Sussex, Union and Warren. Seventy-five percent of net funds raised ($11.3 million since inception) stays within the affiliate’s service region to support education, screening, treatment and treatment support services for uninsured and underinsured women and men. The remaining 25 percent is directed to research on the national level to find the cures ($5.1 million since 1997).
