COLONIA—Colonia High School will present “Seussical The Musical” on March 25-27 at 7 p.m. There will also be a 2 p.m. matinee on March 28 and a 4 p.m. senior citizens’ free matinee on March 23 at 4 p.m.
“Seussical,” which debuted in 2000, is a musical based on the popular children’s books written by Dr. Seuss. Characters jump out of the pages of their books and onto the stage together for the very first time.
The Cat in the Hat (Zach Fishman), an outside observer, acts as narrator and devil’s advocate throughout the show, briefly leaping into the action on several occasions to create conflict and keep the story moving.
The story centers around Horton the Elephant (Ryan Ardiente), who finds himself faced with a double challenge—not only must he protect his tiny friend Jojo (Stepen Cracchiolo) and all the “invisible” Whos from a world of dangers, but he must guard an abandoned egg, left to his care by the irresponsible Mayzie La Bird (Lacey Fowler.)
Although Horton faces ridicule, danger, kidnapping and a trial, the intrepid Gertrude McFuzz (Caitlin Charniga) never loses faith in him, the only one who recognizes “his kind and his powerful heart.” Ultimately, the powers of friendship, loyalty, family and community are challenged and emerge triumphant. The audience will witness acts of love, hairy situations, and desperate adventures and should always remember that anything’s possible.
The show will be directed by Stephanie Platko, with Jenna Rose serving as the student stage manager. Kristin Cioni and Matthew Goncalves are the choreographers, and Alaine Bolton provides vocal direction.
Tickets are $10 in advance or $14 at the door. Senior citizen discount tickets are available for $5.
