LINDEN – A 40-year-old city woman was killed when her minivan collided with a cargo tanker truck early Saturday morning, police said.
Mona C. Johnson was driving a 1996 Mercury Villager minivan south on Route 1. At approximately 2:36 a.m., the minivan collided with a cargo tanker owned by Fuel Transport of Englishtown that had stopped for a red light in the center southbound lane at the intersection of Avenue C, police said.
Police said there was no indication of braking by the minivan. Johnson, who was not wearing a seatbelt according to police, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The truck, driven by Zviad Gogoladze, 39, of Philadelphia, Pa., was carrying 8,500 gallons of gasoline and diesel fuel. No fuel leaked and the truck driver was uninjured, police said.
