ELIZABETH – St. Patrick of Elizabeth will not be allowed to defend its boys’ basketball Tournament of Champions title.
Earlier this month, the New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association’s executive committee voted to ban the team and suspend coach Kevin Boyle for three games for being present during workouts before the official start of the high school basketball season.
The workouts were held for the benefit of college coaches and were secretly videotaped by an NJSIAA investigator. The NJSIAA Executive Committee denied an appeal from St. Patrick, which claimed that the NJSIAA trespassed, invaded privacy and didn’t notify the school that it was under investigation.
