Well…I just saw the video for the remake of “We Are The World”, celebrating it’s 25th anniversary, just in time for them to latch Haiti on as their cause-du-jour.
Where to begin… The remake is so bad, words can’t even begin to describe…but, I’ll try.
First of all…how many of you out there remember the original version? Not the greatest collaboration, I know, but at least there seemed to be a consistency in what was going on, and a reason for the artists to be there.
The new version?…well, the only reason seems to be for the artists to be there, regardless of any consistency.
And not just because most of them can’t even sing on-key…(There is, after all, Tony Bennett there, so ya’ gotta give him some props…) But Mr. Bennett stands out like a sore thumb amongst the ‘rappers and clappers’ that surround him.
And there’s something else that stands out like a sore thumb, and it ain’t God…
It’s the absence of Him in the lyrics, which have now been changed, making His appearance deemed unnecessary.
Need I have to tell you what was really unnecessary here…
