SOUTH AMBOY-Remember having off from school on both Lincoln’s Birthday (Feb. 12) and Washington’s Birthday (Feb. 22.)?

In February 1942, School No. 1 held exercises to mark famous birthdays.

The song “George Washington” was performed by the pre-primary class, “Brave as Washington”-Charles Refhuss, “Brave and True and Kind”-Rober Lambertson and Raymond Davis, “A Valentine” Mary Ann Tustin, “My Valentine”- Mary Helen Reed and Jean Farrell, “Our Flag”-Rose Marie Delefetti-Barbara Ann Troniec, and “Our Valentine”-Marion Holton and Anita Dexheimer.

The announcer was Iola Horan and “Flag Salute”-Second Grade, “Brave, True and Kind”-Richard Johnson, James McKeon, Harold Mehrlander and Arnold Sandberg, “A True American”-Rhoda Cohen.
