CLARK – The local UNICO chapter will present donations from the proceeds of the October Italian American Feast at Clark’s next Township Council meeting on Feb. 16, according to Chapter President Ralph Bernardo. The annual feast is Clark UNICO’s largest fundraiser.
“At the end of this year we will have given back to the township of Clark about $18,000 in donations,” Bemardo said. “We will be supporting a number of organizations in town including Project Graduation, ALJ Key Club, ALJ Italian Club, Fire, Police, First Aid, Emergency Management, Senior Citizens, Clark Little League, Clark Education Fund, Clark Historical Society and Clark Recreation just to name a few. We also purchased an $800 banner for the ALJ marching band. In addition, our chapter will also donate money to the Haiti relief fund.”
UNICO will also present three Arthur L. Johnson High School seniors with $1,000 scholarships for their academic achievements in June.
UNICO is one of the last remaining service organizations in the area, according to Bernardo. “What makes UNICO unique in that we are proud of our Italian heritage and live our motto of ‘Service above self.’ Hopefully we have made a difference in a few people’s lives,” Bernardo said.
