Chatham Man Arrested For Aggravated Sexual Assault Against A Minor

ELIZABETH – Yesterday, authorities in Union County arrested a 20-year-old Chatham man after he allegedly engaged in a sexual relationship with a 12-year-old girl, said Prosecutor Theodore J. Romankow.

John Grasso was arrested at his home in Morris County around 2 p.m. on Jan. 28, said Romankow. He has been charged with with first degree aggravated sexual assault and second degree sexual assault, according to authorities. Grasso was previously employed at the Chatham community pool and the Y.M.C.A. in Summit.


According to the investigation, in June 2009 Grasso met the victim on the internet and suggested the two meet in person. Between June and September, Grasso allegedly met the victim several times in and around Union and Morris counties and allegedly engaged in sexual acts.

Police were notified one of the victim’s parents became aware of the alleged assaults, according to authorities.

Union County Superior Court Judge Robert J. Mega ordered Grasso held on $250,000 bail at the Union County Jail. He will make his first court appearance in the coming days.
