LITTLE FALLS—Radio Spirits’ new release of “The Green Hornet: The Biggest Game,” will let fans of the popular character listen to classic radio adventures that haven’t been heard since their original broadcast in 1939.
In these digitally remastered and restored radio adventures, available on CD for the first time, The Green Hornet and Kato work outside the law to battle kidnappers, rackets, fraud, and other nefarious enterprises of the criminal underworld. Starring Al Hodge (later television’s Captain Video) as newspaperman Britt Reid, alias The Green Hornet, and Raymond Toyo as Kato.
The twenty episodes included were transferred by archivist Terry Salomonson from original transcription discs obtained from the estate of series producer George Trendle and include 16 episodes uncirculated since their initial broadcast in 1939. The remaining four episodes are available for the first time in unedited form – complete, uncut, and straight from the original masters.
Debuting as a radio character in 1936, The Green Hornet went on to success in movies, comic books, and a 1966 television series. The Green Hornet currently appears in a new comic book series, and will be seen in print later this year as subject of a non-fiction history of the character, and in new fiction adaptations. A new film adaptation by Columbia Pictures is anticipated to reach theaters in December 2010. The Green Hornet, Black Beauty, Kato and the hornet logos are trademarks of The Green Hornet, Inc.
