MORRISTOWN ? Actavis, Inc., will donate $10,000 to the American Red Cross to help victims of last week’s Haiti earthquake, the generic drug manufacturer announced Wednesday. The company, based in Morristown, has several New Jersey manufacturing facilities including one in Elizabeth.
“The scale of this tragedy has been unimaginable, and all of us at Actavis have been moved and inspired by the tremendous effort to bring relief to the people of Haiti,” said CEO Doug Boothe. “As always, the American Red Cross has been front and center in its response, and so we are confident that this donation is going to have a real impact upon those who are suffering.”
Along with the company’s donation, Boothe said individual employees also have contributed to Haiti relief. Noting that the company this month launched a program allowing employees to take up to one paid day off per year to volunteer on behalf of a charity, he said employees may wish to consider using their “Employee Volunteer Day” to help a local organization’s relief initiatives.
“Our people care about their communities and their neighbors,” he said. “Whether it’s giving money or time, if there is a way to help, I know that our people will.”
