CLARK—The Arthur L. Johnson High School DECA Team had twelve of their students qualify for the DECA State Conference in February by competing in the regional conference earlier this month at Middlesex County College.
DECA is an organization for business and marketing students where members compete against each other in over 15 different business fields such as restaurant management, hotel management, and accounting, to name a few. Competitions consist of a written-based exam in the student’s chosen event, and judged role-plays that test a student’s ability to respond quickly to different business situations.
Those students who qualified for the state conference were Melissa Fabijanczuk, Greg Leano, Alex Guaracci, Sal Bove, Jessica Racanelli, Jenna Adamusik, Alec Seaver, and Kyle Eipel. The team also had four place winners at this competition with Zachary Maysonet placing second in Business Management and Joseph Mignoli winning the Retail Management event. The team event of Hospitality and Tourism was also won by Isabelle Filiciello and Lisa Hagen.
The DECA State Conference will be held in Cherry Hill from Feb. 21-23, with the top students qualifying for the National Conference in Anaheim, Calif. in late April.
