SPRINGFIELD—The AAA New Jersey Automobile Club and New Jersey Blood Services will host a blood drive at AAA’s Springfield office, located at 135 Route 22 East, on Tuesday, Jan. 19 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. All eligible donors are encouraged to give blood. Donors will receive a special gift.
According to New Jersey Blood Services, a division of the New York Blood Center, blood supplies in area hospitals remain low, causing an urgent need in securing blood and platelet donations. New Jersey Blood Services supports 60 hospitals throughout New Jersey, providing them with much-needed blood products and services.
Approximately 120,000 volunteers are needed annually to donate blood for the nearly four million patients who require life-saving blood and/or platelet transfusions each year, officials estimate. Approximately 39,000 units of blood are needed every day in the U.S., with someone needing blood every three seconds.
