HAMDEN, Conn. – Edison native Jacinda Dunbar, a sophomore member of the women’s basketball team, was named Quinnipiac University’s Female Athlete of the Month for December.
Dunbar was the Bobcats’ best player in December, ending the month with a spot on the Wyndham Miami Holiday All-Tournament Team. In the final game of the month, she put in her best performance of the season, pulling down 12 rebounds and matching her career high with 15 points against Central Michigan in the Consolation Game of the Miami Tournament on Dec. 29. In that game against the Chippewas, Dunbar also set a new career high with six assists, doubling her previous high of three.
In the first game of the weekend against the Hurricanes, Dunbar had 11 boards in the first half and finished the two-game tournament with 24 rebounds and 21 points. She ended the month with three double-digit scoring performances, including 11 points against Morgan State at the Brown Bear Classic in Providence, R.I., on Dec. 5. Against No. 17 Vanderbilt on Dec. 10, Dunbar’s 14 points and seven rebounds nearly led Quinnipiac to the upset of the Commodores, falling one point short, 75-74.
This season, Dunbar is fifth in the NEC in rebounding (7.6 rpg), eighth in shooting percentage (.482), 14th in steals (1.75) and 15th in free-throw percentage (.705).
