ELIZABETH – The Union County Clerk’s Office no longer issues county identification cards, effective Jan. 1, 2010.

According to Union County Clerk Joanne Rajoppi, citizens who do not drive and who require official photo identification should obtain a U.S. Passport Book or a U.S. Passport Card, which are recognized by the federal government under the new “REAL ID.” Passport fees range between $35 and $120, and do not include the cost of photos.

During the months of January and February, the clerk’s offices in Elizabeth and Westfield will waive the $10 fee for having your photograph taken for a passport book or card.

Passport application forms may be obtained at the County Clerk’s main office in the Union County Courthouse at 2 Broad Street in Elizabeth or at the County Clerk’s office annex at 300 North Avenue East in Westfield.

Applications for passports and related information also can be found online at

The telephone number at the Westfield Annex is 1-908-654-9859. The telephone number in Elizabeth is 1-908-527-4966.
