ALJ Drama Teacher Honored
CLARK – Peter Nevargic, a teacher of drama and English at Arthur L. Johnson High School in Clark, has been named the school’s teacher of the month for December.
Nevargic was born in Newark, but grew up in Clark. He graduated from ALJ in 1980 and was active in the school’s drama program. He graduated with highest honors from Rutgers University-Newark, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in English.

Nevargic was a professional actor for 17 years, appearing in four feature films as well as a number of plays and musicals. In 2006, he began his second career as a teacher. He is also the Drama Club advisor and has directed several student productions at the high school.
Nevargic credits the confidence he gained and the wherewithal to pursue his dream of becoming an actor to the time he spent at ALJ as a student.
