CRANFORD—The Cranford Public Library invites the public to a lecture by Dr. William Gillette, Professor of History at Rutgers University, on “The Role of New Jersey in the Civil War,” on Tuesday, Dec. 8, at 7:30 p.m. at the Cranford Community Center, 220 Walnut Avenue.
Gillette will offer a reconsideration of the state’s wartime role. The traditional view that New Jersey was a copperhead stronghold will be challenged. The home front and the battlefront will be touched on, but emphasis will be given to the political front.
Gillette is the author of three books and 24 articles. He contributed nine articles to The Encyclopedia of New Jersey, and his Jersey Blue: Civil War Politics in New Jersey, 1854-1865, was picked by New Jersey Monthly as a top ten non-fiction book about New Jersey.
Admission is free and all are welcome. For more information about the program, call the library at 1-908-709-7272 or send an email to email@example.com. For more information about the library and other upcoming library programs, visit cranford.com/library.
