Elizabeth Shooting Classified As Murder/Suicide
ELIZABETH—An Elizabeth couple died this weekend in what the medical examiner’s office has classified as a murder/suicide, according to Union County Prosecutor Theodore J. Romankow.
Police were called to a Maggie Avenue home around 8:20 p.m. on Saturday night, said Romankow. They discovered the bodies of Argael Rincon, 53, and Maria Alvarez, 45.
According to the investigation, a relative who was home at the time heard the couple arguing followed by gunshots, said Romankow.
The medical examiner determined that Alvarez died from a gunshot wound to the chest. Rincon died of a self-inflicted gunshot to the head. A .32 caliber handgun was recovered at the scene. Ballistics performed on the bullets and gun confirms that the case was a murder suicide, officials said.
The investigation was handled by the Union County Homicide Task Force and the Elizabeth Police Department.
