Students Boost Soldiers’ Spirits Through Letter-Writing, Picture Campaign
EDISON—Nia Allen-Lee of Parlin, a senior at The Wardlaw-Hartridge School in Edison, worked with fifth graders on Nov. 24 to launch a letter-writing and photo campaign established by Massachusetts Senator John Kerry for U.S. troops overseas.
Allen-Lee was selected by Kerry to serve as his Senate page during the spring semester last year. She worked as a House page this summer.
Kerry’s Office Manager recently contacted Allen-Lee to ask her to help amass special letters and photos for the soldiers that will go into a care package for the holidays.

The students developed first and second drafts of their letters to the troops and agreed to address them: “Dear Friend” and to thank them for their sacrifice and service to our nation.
