CLARK—CONTACT We Care, the award-winning 24-hour caring and crisis hotline will conduct its unique interactive, two-day suicide intervention training for members of the general public on Jan. 30 and 31 at the Crown Plaza Hotel in Clark. The cost of the workshop is $299 and includes all materials and breakfast and lunch both days.
For police officers, rescue squads, teachers, school administrators, clergy, corporate managers, or anyone else who might find themselves confronted with a stressed out or suicidal individual, CONTACT We Care’s “Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training” program (ASIST) is designed to provide community members with the tools to successfully intervene when someone in the community may be at serious risk of suicide.
“As the listening experts, serving the community for 34 years by providing crisis intervention services, we are pleased to share our expertise with organizations, large and small, throughout the community,” said David Owens, executive director. “CONTACT’S ASIST program provides participants with the means to reduce the risk and the confidence to create a positive outcome. Just as “CPR” skills are important in conventional first aid, CONTACT’S ASIST program develops the skills for suicide first aid.”
CONTACT We Care trains and supervises adult volunteers to offer the gift of listening to callers who are lonely, depressed, stressed or suicidal. The organization, based in Westfield, was named the “Best Statewide Volunteer Organization” by the New Jersey Governor’s Office of Volunteerism in 2008.
