RAHWAY—Winter came a bit early in Ms. Bechelli’s fifth grade class at Grover Cleveland School. After reading two stories about sled dogs and the annual Alaskan Iditarod race, they couldn’t help but have snow and ice on their minds.
They learned about the Minnesota Winter and Ice Festival, where actual castles are sculpted from ice and got to thinking…what if there were hotels made of ice?
Working in centers, students made models of ice hotels out of sugar cubes and icing, then in persuasive writing essays, wrote advertisements for the unique offerings of those lodgings.
