Police Investigate Accident
RAHWAY – Police are investigating an accident between a bicycle and a motor vehicle that happened on Saturday evening on East Hazelwood Avenue near Main Street.
According to police, the preliminary investigation determined that Ricky Petty, 49, of Newark, was attempting to cross East Hazelwood Avenue on his bicycle at approximately 6:20 p.m. on Nov. 14 when he was struck by a 1997 Nissan Sentra driven by Chu Chin, 32, of Edison, that was traveling east on the road.
Petty was treated at the scene for injuries to his head and right knee, and he was taken to University Hospital in Newark, police said.
The eastbound lane of East Hazelwood Avenue was closed for approximately four hours while police investigated the accident. If anyone has information related to the accident, authorities ask them to call the Rahway Police Traffic Bureau at 1-732-827-2073.
