ROSELLE – The Roselle Urban Enterprise Zone Clean Team is taking its mission to beautify Roselle a step further thanks to a new commercial property maintenance effort.
Last week, members of the Clean Team went beyond the sidewalks and streets they typically maintain and stepped onto the front lawns of local businesses that need extra help keeping their property clean.
Clean Team members also walked through the parking lots of several local businesses, picking up litter and sweeping away leaves when possible. They will now tidy up store fronts and lots as part of their regular duties. This means help for business owners who could use assistance removing garbage, collecting leaves and maintaining an overall neat appearance for their business.
Roselle UEZ Coordinator Harry Wyatt believes the new initiative will noticeably improve the way Roselle looks and feels.
“The Clean Team has taken on a more active role in supporting our businesses in Roselle by helping them look more appealing to prospective customers and providing the community as a whole with a more beautiful, unified appearance,” Wyatt said.
The Clean Team members, which previously only cleaned the sidewalks and streets in Roselle’s commercial districts, have been reorganized into two two-person teams. The new structure will give them enough flexibility to help maintain commercial properties in addition to their other duties.
Because most businesses in Roselle are small business that cannot afford to hire outside maintenance crews, this initiative is being offered as a free service by the UEZ Clean team.
“The UEZ was established to be a support system for businesses in Roselle and the Clean Team is upholding this tradition by helping our businesses look as clean and attractive as possible to people who want to shop and do business in Roselle,” said Mayor Garrett Smith. “This additional service being provided by the Clean Team gives business owners one less thing to worry about and it will help improve the quality of life and aesthetics in Roselle.”
Businesses that would like assistance in the basic upkeep of their property are encouraged to contact the UEZ at 1-908-259-3001.
Roselle UEZ Clean Team members Jermaine Randle and Calvin Brown help clear the leaves out of the CVS parking lot on First Avenue as part of the Clean Team’s new policy to help Roselle businesses maintain their property.
