RAHWAY — The Merchants and Drovers Tavern Museum Association will host Children’s Ghost Night at the Tavern on Saturday, Nov. 21, beginning at 6:30 p.m. All children from ages 6 through 14 are invited to step back in time to the early 1800s to hear true tales of ghostly happenings in an era of candlelit taverns and stagecoach inns.
Parents are also welcome to join this fun and exciting evening at the 210-year-old Rahway landmark where actors will take their audience through the period rooms and share the stories and historical legends of supernatural and mysterious events.
Anne Hoener, museum association trustee and event chairperson, said, “Before the advent of TV and the telephone, stagecoach inns and taverns were the communication hub of each town, and very often the location of many interesting as well as mysterious events. Hosting this event in a real 18th century inn and telling the ghostly tales of real travelers of long ago allows our organization to present historical programs that are both educational and entertaining for all ages.”
Tours for this Nov. 21 event will be held every hour beginning at 6:30, 7:30 and the last beginning at 8:30 p.m., and refreshments will be available to all the hungry “ghost hunters.” The fee is $5 for children (ages 6 through 14), and $7 for accompanying adults. Reservations are required due to the increasing popularity of this twice-annual event. Call Alex Shipley at: 1-732-381-0441.
