Syringe Shortage Doesn’t Stop Flu Clinics

Wednesday, November 11, 2009

RAHWAY – Rahway was one of five Union County municipalities that received H1N1 flu vaccine over the weekend, but didn’t get enough syringes.

Health officials said that they “ransacked the county supply” of syringes and even bought some from a local drug store to make sure that the clinics in Berkeley Heights, Hillside, Rahway, Scotch Plains and Winfield could go on as scheduled.

The state health department said that the federal Centers for Disease Control provided the vaccine from one warehouse and the syringes from another. The shipments did not arrive at the same time.
