PRINCETON—On Thursday, Oct. 29, students from St. Mary of the Assumption High School in Elizabeth attended a performance of “She Stoops to Conquer” at McCarter Theatre in Princeton. This was the first of many steps in their participation in McCarter Theatre’s Youth Ink! Playwrighting Program.

As part of the program, McCarter’s education staff partners with high school educators to empower students to write original ten-minute plays. During the year-long program students attend plays at McCarter Theatre, participate in learning sessions with professional playwrights, dramaturges and McCarter’s artistic director, Emily Mann.

Throughout the process, the students’ plays are critiqued and fine-tuned. The year culminates in the selection of one student’s play, which is then performed by professional actors at McCarter Theatre’s annual Youth Ink! Festival.
